Live data

How do live departures work?

Operators that track their vehicles publish real-time data (GTFS-Realtime): where each vehicle is and how late or early it runs. transit.bg collects it and refreshes the times every 20 seconds while the page is open. Times marked with a green dot and “Live” are real-time predictions; all others are the published timetable.

Why don't I see a vehicle on the map?

Vehicles appear only where the operator publishes positions. Even then, a vehicle may be missing if its GPS unit is switched off or has lost signal, if it has not started its trip yet, or if it runs a trip that is not in the timetable. Scheduled departures are still shown at the stops.

How are delays and cancellations shown?

When real-time data is available, a late vehicle shows its expected time and the delay, for example “+3 min”. A cancelled trip is struck through and labelled “Cancelled”. Planned disruptions such as diversions and closures are listed under Service alerts.

How accurate are the times?

Scheduled times are exactly what the operator publishes. Live predictions are usually accurate to a minute or two, but traffic, diversions and GPS gaps can make them jump. Allow a little extra time for important journeys, and check the operator for official information.

Using transit.bg

Which cities are covered?

Aytos, Blagoevgrad, Burgas, Dobrich, Kazanlak, Pleven, Plovdiv, Samokov, Sliven, Sofia, Stara Zagora, Varna, Veliko Tarnovo and Yambol, plus BDZ trains across the country. The up-to-date list with links is on the Cities page. We add networks as operators publish open data.

How do I save a stop or a line?

Open the stop or line and tap the star. Saved items appear under Saved, with the next departures from your stops at a glance. They are stored only on this device — no account needed.

Does transit.bg work offline?

Partly. Pages you have opened, the app itself and recently loaded timetables are kept on your device, so they open without a connection. Live departures, vehicles, the journey planner and address search need the internet.

Is there an app?

Android and iOS apps are in development. Meanwhile you can install the web app from your browser — it starts from the home screen and opens full-screen. See the app page for step-by-step instructions.

Can I buy tickets on transit.bg?

No. transit.bg does not sell tickets — fares and tickets are handled by each operator through its own channels.

Privacy and feedback

How is my location used?

Your location is used only with your permission — after you tap a location button, and from then on also for the nearby stops on the home page — and only to find nearby stops or plan a route; no link ever contains it. The privacy policy explains what data the site processes.

How do I report a mistake?

Write to contact@transit.bg with the link to the page, what you expected and the time you noticed it. If a timetable itself is wrong, the operator may need to fix its data — we will pass it on when we can. More tips are on the contact page.
