What transit.bg is

transit.bg is an independent web app for everyone who travels by bus, trolleybus, tram, metro or train in Bulgaria. It works in any modern browser on a phone, tablet or computer, in Bulgarian and English, and can be installed like an app.

There are no accounts or adverts. Your saved stops and settings are kept on your device, and the privacy policy explains what data the site processes.

transit.bg shows every network with open timetable data. Choose a city to see its lines and stops:

The list grows as more operators publish open data. A network may temporarily show no lines while its operator updates the timetable.

Data sources and licences

transit.bg does not create timetable data. It combines open sources and shows them in one place:

Timetables and live data

GTFS timetables and GTFS-Realtime feeds, published by the operators or their data providers: Theoremus (Sofia), livetransport.eu, Modeshift, BDZ, Trolleybus Transport Pleven and Aytos Avtotransport. transit.bg's own servers process them with OpenTripPlanner. The data remains the responsibility of each operator.

Rendered from the Protomaps basemap and hosted on transit.bg itself, so loading the map does not contact any other server.

Open-source software

transit.bg is built with Leaflet, protomaps-leaflet, PMTiles, the Lucide icons and the Inter typeface. Their licences are in licenses.txt.

How current the data is

Timetables are refreshed every day from the operators' latest published files. The app notices a new timetable automatically, so you never need to update anything.

Vehicle positions refresh every few seconds and live departures every 20 seconds while the page is open — but only for networks whose operators publish real-time data. Everywhere else you see the scheduled times, clearly marked as such.

Independence

transit.bg is not a transport operator and is not affiliated with any operator, municipality or BDZ. Information can be incomplete or out of date, so for fares, tickets and official notices always check the operator's own channels. The disclaimer and the terms and conditions have the details.
